‘Survivors’ has left its mark on many contestants over the years. Experience not only tests physical and mental resistance of the participants during the contest, but in some cases, the consequences can be much longer lasting than anyone would have anticipated. This is the case of Miri Pérez-Cabreroone of the most prominent participants of the 2024 edition, who has revealed that she is going through serious health difficulties since her return from the island.
Through her social networks, Miri has made known health problems that he has been facing since his participation in the contest concluded. The influencer, who achieved fame after her time on ‘MasterChef’, has mainly used her Instagram account to open up to her followers and tell in detail the physical complications she has experienced. Among the most worrying problems she has shared is the disappearance of her menstrual cycle, a situation that has deeply affected her both physically and emotionally.
«Since I left ‘Survivor’, I haven’t had my period. The last one was just before I left for the island, and nothing since then. “I’m suffering a lot with this,” Miri confessed in a series of stories. The former contestant explained that she has gone through several doctors trying to find a solution to this condition, known as amenorrhea, which has caused her not only distress, but also visible physical symptoms that affect her daily.
One of the most visible consequences that Miri has mentioned is fluid retention, a consequence derived from the hormonal alteration that she has experienced since his participation in the reality show. According to her, this condition has caused noticeable swelling, especially in her face and eyelids, which makes her feel uncomfortable and, in her own words, “very different” from how she was before participating in ‘Survivors’. «my body has changedbut what I notice the most is my face, especially my eyelids. They swell a lot and that affects me psychologically,” he explained.
Miri Pérez-Cabrero opens her heart
The influencer has confessed that this problem has caused her a lot of frustration. «It is something that I do not control, and that is the most difficult thing. “I have tried different treatments and I am still looking for a solution, but the process is being slow and complicated,” he shared.
In his attempt to regain his healthMiri has turned to several alternative treatments to deal with her hormonal problem. Among them, he mentioned acupuncture and psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), a discipline that combines psychological and biological aspects to treat health problems in a comprehensive manner. «I’m going to get acupuncture, and I’m also seeing a PNI specialist.which is helping me see how all of this may be related to my digestive system and emotions. “I’m trying to balance everything, because I know that this is not just physical,” he detailed on his networks.
The former contestant has also shown herself very proactive by sharing her experience with other women who are going through similar situations. «I have received a lot of messages from women who, like me, are suffering from problems related to lack of menstruation. It is incredible how many people identify with it and that is why I want to continue telling my evolution. I hope we can find solutions together,” he said.
The situation that Miri Pérez-Cabrero is going through
Miri’s case is not the first in which a ‘Survivors’ contestant experience lasting health problems after their time in the program. The extreme conditions of the Honduran island, where contestants must survive with minimal resources, undergo intense physical tests and face a lack of adequate food, often leave notable physical traces. Prolonged exposure to the sun, continuous effort and lack of nutrients affect not only the bodybut also the hormonal balance of the participants.
In the past, other contestants have shared similar experiences. Marieta, a participant in a previous edition, also revealed that she suffered amenorrhea after spending time on the island, although in her case the problem was resolved in a matter of months. However, for Miri, this process has been much longer and more difficult. «It’s been enough time since I’ve been back, and I still don’t see a clear solution. “It is physically and mentally exhausting,” he confessed.
In addition to hormonal problems, the young influencer has mentioned on other occasions that her skin also suffered significant deterioration after leaving the contest. «When I returned from ‘Survivors’my skin was terrible. It was dry, wrinkled and full of stains. It took me a lot of work to get it back, but it’s still not like before», he said in another intervention through his networks.
«It moves me to see how so many women go through this»
Despite the hard times he has faced, Miri has found great support from her followerswho have sent her messages of encouragement and shared their own similar health experiences. This constant exchange has allowed the influencer to not feel alone in her struggle and has generated a space of support between women who share complicated medical situations. «It moves me to see how so many women go through this and how we are here to support each other.. Although my situation is difficult, I feel supported,” she expressed. The issue is already on the table, but how will it end?
